The humble running stitch when in the hands of imagination takes an art form. Kantha of Bengal, Gudri of Rajasthan, Sujni of Bihar, Sashiko of Japan, are all expressions in embroidery using the simplest of all the stitches - the running stitch.
We are so happy to bring to you cushion covers made by Sujni artists of Bihar. The motifs are very fluid and often free hand, based on what the women artists observe around them in their rural surroundings on a day to day basis. The honesty and vibrance in these pieces gently tug at your heart, as the simple figures and traditional motifs seem to pulsate with life and joy.
- Please note that in the piece you receive, the actual colour combination of the embroidery threads used in crafting the motifs could be different from the picture shown, while the design will essentially be the same.
- These pieces are embroidered by rural women artisans in their spare time from home and field chores, and each artist exercises her creative freedom in the choice of embroidery thread colours, hence it is impossible to achieve "machine like" standardization.
- The beauty of such a limitation is that each piece is unique!
